The Gilded Sun Rose is a long-lasting bloomer that provides a bold, lemon-yellow burst of color. This shrub rose has a dense form and continues to bloom from spring until frost. The yellow flowers are fade resistant and maintain their bright yellow hue throughout the bloom cycle. The flowers are complemented by dark, glossy green foliage with serrated edges.
The Gilded Sun Rose makes a beautiful specimen planting, flowering hedge, or foundation planting. This plant is easy to maintain and disease resistant. The flowers have a slight fragrance, but this plant is grown more for its visual impact. Grow the Gilded Sun Rose as a perennial in zones 5 through 9.
Gilded Sun Rose Care
This rose bush has typical care needs and requires full sun and moist, rich soil. The soil should be slightly acidic and well drained. New plants need consistent water for the first growing season, while established plants need water every couple weeks. Regularly fertilize the plants to encourage new growth and abundant flowers. Use a balanced fertilizer or plant food specifically for roses and apply every few weeks during the spring and summer.
A well-timed trim can promote a full and bushy form. Cut the plant back in late winter or early spring by about one-third before new growth appears. Remove spent flowers to encourage more blooms.
Gilded Sun Rose Spacing
The Gilded Sun Rose has an upright growth habit and reaches 4 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. While this cultivar is disease resistant, provide proper air circulation and space shrubs 4 feet apart when creating a hedge.
