This deciduous shrub will provide year-round interest in your landscape in an array of colors. In the spring, new leaves emerge in a sunny shade of orange. They gradually mature to deep burgundy in color with a shiny surface. The deeply lobed and serrated leaves turn red in the fall. Once the foliage drops in the fall, the interesting peeling bark will steal the show in your garden.

Springtime also means that ginger wine ninebark will be covered in showy white flowers that open from pink buds that form on the ends of the branches. The flowers mature to attractive red seed heads that are favored by birds. The flowers can be used to create spring bouquets. This multi-stemmed shrub grows in a rounded form in USDA hardiness zones 3 to 7. It reaches 5 to 6 feet in width and height at maturity in full sun conditions. Ginger Wine Ninebark is native to North America and is deer resistant.

Ginger Wine Ninebark Care

Ginger Wine Ninebark is low maintenance and can be pruned at any time if needed to keep its size in check. The flowers appear on old wood. This shrub grows at a medium rate and can be expected to live for 30 years. It’s a great choice for an accent plant, in mass plantings, to create hedges for screening or privacy and to add year-round interest in perennial gardens. It can also be grown in a large container.

Ginger Wine Ninebark Spacing

Plant multiple species 5 to 6 feet apart on center to create a hedge. It will take a few years for the branches to fill in to create a living wall.

Interesting Fact - The name "ninebark" comes from the mature bark that peels back, giving it multiple layers.

    Nice plant but....

Posted by John Mantey on Jul 19, 2021

FedEx didn't pay attention to the "This side up" on the box so the soil was displaced out of the pot. I'm happy with the purchase otherwise. This plant was not available in my area.
