Would you like to achieve that iconic yet effortless look and feel of a cottage garden? Globemaster Allium will transform your garden with its showy clusters of star-shaped flowers anywhere from 2 - 3 feet tall. Their stunning flowers are globe shaped, 10 inches in diameter in a deep violet color. They bloom from spring to early summer with long-lasting impact. As the flowers fade, the dry seed pods remain in their ornamental splendor adding intrigue to your garden even after flowering. As an ornamental allium, Globemaster flowers on tall, thin scapes with linear leaves at the bottom of the plant and is perennial from zone 5 - 8.
Globemaster Allium is a striking beauty in the garden that is also easy to grow! It thrives in many soil types and is considered drought resistant. This bulb plant can naturalize in your garden, increasing in size and spread year after year. Globemaster is perfect for that cottage garden effect and can be planted in beds, borders, or even in mass plantings. Their flowers have little scent but attract a wide range of pollinators. Globemaster Allium is deer and rabbit resistant.
Globemaster Allium Care
Globemaster Allium bulbs should be planted in the fall; choose a planting location in full sun to partial shade where they perform best. Globemaster Allium tolerates most soil types and a wide range of pH levels. Make sure the location is well draining; if the soil remains too moist, the bulbs may rot and will not come back the following year. Globemaster Allium has average water needs.
Spent flowers can be left as seed pods in the garden for long-lasting interest or removed. Globemaster Allium flowers can also be cut and dried for beautiful ornamental pieces. The bulbs can be dug up and divided after foliage dies back and before the first frost.
Globemaster Allium Spacing
Globemaster Allium bulbs should be planted 6 inches deep and spaced 8 - 10 inches apart. Plant the top of the bulb facing up and root side facing down. Bulbs can be planted more densely in mass plantings for extreme flower power.
