Growing Zones
The Golden Spring Alyssum has sunny yellow flowers that bloom in clusters, so they stand out even though they are tiny. Also known as Alyssum wulfenianum, it blooms during spring, and the flowers are complemented by narrow, medium-green foliage. This easy-to-grow cultivar is disease resistant and thrives in heat, so you can enjoy the lovely flowers without committing a lot of time.
The carpet-like spreading tendency of Golden Spring Alyssum makes this plant an excellent filler in a container. Fill in the front of a bed or add bold color to an area under a tree or shrub. This spring bloomer pairs well with shrubs that bloom later in the growing season, so there is always continuous color. Deer and rabbits tend to leave the plant alone. The Golden Spring Alyssum grows in zones 4 through 9.
Golden Spring Alyssum Care
Plant Golden Spring Alyssum in moist, well-drained soil in a spot that receives full sun. The soil should be evenly moist, so water as needed. Apply balanced fertilizer every two to four weeks during the spring and summer.
Deadhead the plant to keep it tidy and encourage more flowers. Prune leggy, overgrown stems to promote new, dense growth. Give the plant a rejuvenating trim two or three times during the summer or as needed. Never remove more than one-third of the growth at a time.
Golden Spring Alyssum Spacing
Golden Spring Alyssum reaches 6 to 8 inches tall and 12 to 14 inches wide. This perennial naturally spreads, so space plants 12 to 14 inches apart.
