Shasta Daisies are striking blooming perennials that provide bold, cheerful color, and the Goldfinch Shasta Daisy delivers. The Leucanthemum 'Goldfinch' blooms from July through August and displays lemon-yellow flowers with double layers of feathery petals. As the blooms age, the intense yellow color will fade to ivory, giving the plants a new look and dimension. The flowers grow on top of thick stems and are surrounded by leathery, deep green foliage.
This plant is a vigorous grower, and with time it will easily spread and fill in an area. Use Goldfinch Shasta Daisies in beds, mass plantings, borders, or containers. Shasta Daisy plants look wonderful when used in a mixed perennial bed. The beautiful flowers can be cut and used in arrangements. The Goldfinch Shasta Daisy is a perennial in USDA zones 5 through 9, and the bold blooms attract butterflies.
Goldfinch Shasta Daisy Care
Shasta Daisies prefers loamy, moist, but well-drained soil with a neutral pH. This plant needs full to partial sun to look its best. The Goldfinch prefers consistently damp soil, but these plants do not like to be soggy. Water Shasta Daisies only when the top couple of inches of soil feels dry.
This plant prefers rich soil, so top dress the soil with organic compost to give the plant a nutritional boost. The compost layer will also retain moisture and hold back weeds for added convenience. Apply a balanced fertilizer once a month during the growing season. The foliage will stay in place in areas with warm winters, but in areas with cold winters, all of the greenery can be trimmed back in the fall. Cover the plant with mulch to protect against inclement weather.
Goldfinch Shasta Daisy Spacing
The Goldfinch Shasta Daisy is a mounded, upright plant that will grow 18 to 20 inches tall and spread 20 to 24 inches. Plants can be spaced as close as 10 inches when grown in beds or mass plantings. Feature two to three plants in a 12-inch container to feature on a patio or porch.
