Growing Zones
Goldfinger Shrubby Potentilla, or Goldfinger Shrubby Cinquefoil, is a busy deciduous shrub that produces heaps of brilliant, highlighter yellow blossoms, approximately 1 inch in diameter, that deepen in color as the season progresses. Its vivid, contrasting green foliage is divided into three to seven leaflets, and compacted into a 3 to 4 foot mound with a spread of 4 to 5 feet. The Goldfinger Shrubby Potentilla continuously blooms from mid-spring until late-summer.
Native to the northern United States, the Goldfinger Shrubby Potentilla is an easy-to-manage, low-maintenance variety of Potentilla. It is deer and critter resistant and attracts butterflies with its stunning bright flowers. It is a very hardy plant that is salt, cold and drought tolerant, as well as pest and disease resistant.
Goldfinger Shrubby Potentilla Care
Goldfinger Shrubby Potentilla should be planted in partial to light shade. If grown in full sun, the flowers will fade. It prefers moist, well-drained soil, and should be watered regularly. To reduce the need for watering, add a 2 to 3 inch layer of bark mulch around the plant to keep the soil moist. Goldfinger Shrubby can survive in poor soils, drought and heat, especially once it has reached maturity. To plant, dig a hole twice the width of the pot with the top of the root ball at level with the soil.
You should lightly prune your Goldfinger Shrubby Potentilla into its classic mounded shape after the flowers have dissipated for the season. Cut away the oldest stems to encourage a better bloom for the coming season. It should also be fertilized in early spring before new growth begins.
Goldfinger Shrubby Potentilla Spacing
The Goldfinger Shrubby Potentilla makes a beautiful accent border or perennial bed and is especially striking when planted together in mass. It is a trouble-free plant that should be spaced 2 to 3 feet apart from center to center.
