Good Vibrations Gold Juniper (Juniperus horizontalis 'Hegedus') is an easy-care evergreen shrub. It's ever-green, gold and red, that is. Each year as it grows, the tiny leaves have a gold tint and turn to orange-purple in fall. Like most junipers, Good Vibrations is one of the most versatile shrubs for a landscape. It survives winters down to zone 3 but can tolerate the heat of zone 9. It's also drought tolerant, so once established, this gold juniper can get by with average water and survive dry periods.

Good Vibrations Gold Juniper makes an excellent evergreen groundcover, since it grows to only 12 to 18 inches high but spreads outward to nearly 9 feet. That's a lot of ground covered with one easy-care plant. The juniper also can tolerate salt and is a durable North American native shrub. It's hard to beat this plant for year-round groundcover and color in a garden bed or near a home's foundation. Even though it is an evergreen, Good Vibrations foliage is soft to the touch.

Good Vibrations Gold Juniper Care

Plant Good Vibrations Gold Juniper in a spot that receives at least 6 hours of sun a day. It will perform best in soil that drains well after rain or watering. You don't need to do much else but prune lightly to shape it and control growth. The shrub doesn't need fertilizing, but you can add a granular fertilizer to thawed ground in early spring if you like.

Good Vibrations Gold Juniper Spacing

Plant Good Vibrations Gold Juniper as a container filler and control its growth if you like or place it on slopes to help control dirt and water erosion. If you plant more than one of these junipers, space them at least 9 to 11 feet apart to account for full growth.
