Juniper is a very low-maintenance plant that is versatile and strikingly beautiful. The feathery foliage is a soft silvery green that will be on display all year long. While the plant does not get very tall, it does cover a large area as the branches creep out. On warm summer days, Grey Owl Juniper has a scent similar to Christmas trees for a pleasant and unexpected surprise.

Juniper is fast-growing and versatile. Use Grey Owl Juniper as a low hedge or groundcover, plant it along foundations or embankments, around trees, in rock gardens. This plant is not just adaptable, but it is also resilient. Grey Owl Juniper is drought tolerant as well as insect, disease, and deer resistant. This plant grows as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 9.

Grey Owl Juniper Plant Care

Plant Grey Owl Juniper in full sun to part sun. Juniper needs 4 to 6 hours of sunlight daily to thrive. Water newly planted Juniper when the top several inches of the soil dry out, but this plant does not require much care once established. The plant may need a drink during an extended drought, but typically Juniper plants are very self-sufficient. Apply mulch around the plant to help retain moisture, especially when the plant is in an area with increased levels of sunlight.

Use well-draining soil to help shed water and prevent root rot. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer each spring. Pruning is generally unnecessary, but remove damaged growth or shape the plant as needed.

Grey Owl Juniper Plant Spacing

Grey Owl Juniper will be 2 to 3 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide once mature. Space plants 3 feet apart to create a full and seamless mass planting, or space plants further apart to give the branches room to reach.
