Guernsey Flute™ Clematis (Clematis ‘EviGsy153’) illuminates the garden with large, pure white, star-shaped flowers graced by subtle red anthers. Blooming from late spring well into early autumn, it delights with a unique champagne flute-like bud stage that gradually unfolds into a broad, showy blossom. Reaching a petite 3–4 feet tall, this vine is a perfect choice for small gardens, containers, or the front of a mixed border. Its prolonged blooming period and easygoing nature make it a standout among white Clematis varieties.

The elegant blooms retain their crisp color even in partial shade, where the plant happily thrives. Bred by the renowned Raymond Evison, Guernsey Flute™ combines compact form with reliable flowering, allowing it to shine on a simple tuteur or trellis. This Clematis is also known for its deer resistance, reducing the stress of damage in wildlife-prone areas. Enjoy it as a companion for colorful annuals in patio planters or as a welcoming accent near entryways.

Guernsey Flute™ Clematis Care

Plant in moist, well-draining soil, positioning the crown 2–4 inches below ground level to protect dormant buds. A neutral to slightly alkaline pH often works best, and consistent watering encourages the deep roots to establish. Provide at least four hours of daily sun, but offer some afternoon shade in warmer regions. Feeding with a balanced, low-nitrogen fertilizer in spring helps maintain steady growth and generous flowering.

Light pruning in early spring (Pruning Group 2) shapes the vine and removes weak or damaged stems. Deadhead spent blooms to stimulate additional bud formation. Container-grown Clematis may need extra watering during hot spells, and a layer of mulch or companion plants keeps roots cool. In climates with freezing winters, consider adding a protective mulch layer around the base.

Guernsey Flute™ Clematis Spacing

Allow roughly 2 to 3 feet between plants when creating a screen or grouping, ensuring good airflow and room for each vine. For single-specimen accents, give the vine enough open space to spread naturally on its support. In containers, opt for a pot at least 12 to 14 inches in diameter to accommodate the root system and the vine’s upward growth.
