Growing Zones
Happy Face® Pink Paradise Potentilla (Potentilla fruticosa) has large, semi-double pink flowers that hold their color longer than most other potentilla. They do fade a bit in intense heat, but make very reliable flowers in cooler climates, from zone 2-7. These are low maintenance and do not have to be deadheaded.
The shrub is drought tolerant after it is established. It is also salt tolerant, so can grow in places where the ice is salted or near an ocean beach. The green foliage makes a nice background for the pink flowers. This compact shrub is deciduous and deer resistant. Bees and butterflies love the blooms every year. Happy Face® Pink Paradise Potentilla is waterwise and pet friendly. It works as a border plant, landscape plant, or in mass plantings. The shrub is native to North America, so it is great for wildlife and easy to care for.
Happy Face® Pink Paradise Potentilla Care
Happy Face® Pink Paradise Potentilla prefers moderate or moist soil but it can tolerate dry conditions once it is established. It likes average soil fertility. Happy Face® Pink Paradise Potentilla needs full sun to part sun. Fertilize with a slow-release tree and shrub fertilizer when new growth begins.
The plant does need light pruning each year for best performance. Prune about a third of the branches to the ground in late winter.
Happy Face® Pink Paradise Potentilla Spacing
Happy Face® Pink Paradise Potentilla is a very compact shrub. It gets 2-3 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. To provide good air circulation, you should allow 2-4 feet between plants, center on center.
