The Hardy Hibiscus Collection gives an outdoor space a tropical vibe. Large, showy flowers make a statement and thrive with little care. The Collection includes the Hibiscus Berry Awesome, Dark Mystery, and Mars Madness. The flowers measure a staggering 8 inches wide. The Hibiscus Berry Awesome has bubblegum pink flowers, the Dark Mystery has light pink petals with a dark burgundy eye, and the Mars Madness is full fuschia. The flowers only last about a day, but the shrubs continue to rebloom, so they are often covered in flowers.
Hibiscuses are woody shrubs with an upright growth habit. Broad green foliage creates a full and dense look. The plants in the Hardy Hibiscus Collection can be used together as a hedge or foundation planting. They can also border an outdoor entertaining area or add seasonal privacy to a pool area. Butterflies and bees enjoy and feed on the showy blooms. The Hardy Hibiscus Collection shrubs grow in zones 4 through 9.
Hardy Hibiscus Collection Care
Plant the Hardy Hibiscus Collection shrubs in full sun using rich, moist, and well-drained soil. New plants need lots of water, but established Hibiscus bushes only need one inch of water weekly. Feed the shrubs annually each spring to encourage prolific blooming.
Prune Hibiscus in late winter or early spring when the plant is still dormant, but there is no longer the possibility of frost. Cut back the old stalks hard and remove suckers. Dead or damaged growth can be removed at any time.
Hardy Hibiscus Collection Spacing
The shrubs in the Hardy Hibiscus Collection reach 5 to 6 feet tall and wide. When creating a hedge or continuous planting, space plants 5 to 6 feet apart.
