Hennie Graafland Astilbe is a showy, shade-loving perennial. Spikes of delicate pink flowers start to bloom in June and have a cloud-like appearance. While the flowers of the Astilbe simplicifolia are undoubtedly stunning, the foliage helps this beauty stand out. The deeply lobed foliage is a lustrous dark green.
Astilbe is a mounded, upright plant. The feathery texture of the flowers makes this beauty a wonderful choice for mass plantings or use in beds or borders for a stunning visual impact. You won’t be the only one to admire the beautiful blooms as pollinators like butterflies and hummingbirds also enjoy the flowers. The foliage tends to be deer-resistant for added convenience. Grow this stunner as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.
Hennie Graafland Astilbe Care
Grow the Hennie Graafland Astilbe in full to part shade for a burst of color in a shady corner of a yard or landscape. This plant has average water needs, but let the soil dry out before watering. Use fertile soil that is moist but well-drained and has an acidic pH. Fertilize using a balanced plant food in the spring.
The first frost will kill the greenery but keep the dead growth in place to protect the roots during the winter. Remove the damaged growth in the spring.
