Henry’s Red Rhododendron shines in late spring with clusters of deep red trumpet-shaped flowers that measure around two inches across. These blossoms form striking trusses against glossy, dark green leaves, and the shrub can reach roughly five to seven feet in both height and width. The rich color of the blooms and the plant’s robust, evergreen foliage will add drama to shaded borders, woodland edges, or foundation plantings. With a slightly upright habit and a moderate growth rate, this rhododendron delivers a reliable source of bright red cheer that few other shrubs can match.
Though the flowers have no strong fragrance, the bold display easily draws the eye and invites pollinators. Being evergreen, the foliage stays attractive year-round, lending substance to the garden even after blooms fade. Henry’s Red Rhododendron typically thrives in partial sunlight, tolerates moderate urban conditions, and showcases considerable cold-hardiness (often managing in areas down to at least -10°F). This makes it ideal for use in mass groupings, mixed shrub borders, or providing a lively screen along shady property lines.
Henry’s Red Rhododendron Care
When planting, select a spot with dappled or morning light to protect it from harsh midday sun. Soil should be consistently moist, acidic, and well-draining; adding organic matter or peat moss can help achieve the right conditions. Mulch around the root zone to preserve moisture and moderate soil temperatures, especially during hot summers. Water regularly and deeply but avoid soggy situations, as rhododendrons dislike being waterlogged. A light application of acidic fertilizer in spring can support healthy growth and abundant blooms; simply follow label instructions to prevent overfeeding.
Maintenance includes minimal pruning, though you may remove spent flower clusters promptly to direct energy toward leaf development. If the shrub becomes overgrown, shape it lightly just after flowering, avoiding late-season cuts that might affect next year’s buds. Winter care might involve an extra layer of mulch or some wind protection if the site is exposed. Containers are an option, but ensure the pot drains well and the soil remains slightly acidic.
Henry’s Red Rhododendron Spacing
For a hedge or large grouping, allow about five to six feet between each plant, so they can reach their mature size without crowding. In a more compact setting or container, use a pot several inches wider than the root ball, giving plenty of room for root development. Sizing up the container every few years will keep the shrub thriving near patios, front doors, or deck areas.

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)
We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Hungry animals, drought, poor soil conditions, over watering, diseases & pests are all good examples of what can cause plants to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.
The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.
Winter to Early Spring
We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone. Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product. For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.
Summer
If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks. We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.
Fall into Winter
We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!
