If you are looking for a climbing rose that won’t get out of control, Highwire Flyer™ Climbing Rose may just be the answer. With its stunning hot pink blooms that keep reappearing all summer long, this climber really will add impact wherever it is grown. Keeping to a manageable 6 feet tall, Highwire Flyer™ produces dark green and glossy foliage that contrast beautifully against its vibrant blooms. With the right care, Highwire Flyer™ Climbing Rose can flower from early summer until the fall.
With its compact but bushy climbing habit, this rose is perfect for growing in a smaller space up a trellis or obelisk. Bred to be as healthy as possible, the Highwire Flyer™ Climbing Rose has excellent resistance against black spot, mildew and rust. The flowers are not scented, but they don’t need to be when they look this amazing.
Highwire Flyer™ Climbing Rose Care
As with all climbing roses, Highwire Flyer™ flowers best when grown in a sheltered spot in full sun. It prefers rich and fertile soil that is moisture retentive, but free-draining. As a deep-rooted plant, once established this climber will generally only require watering during hot and dry periods. However, it can take several seasons to fully get its roots down and will require regular watering until it does. Being hungry plants, roses highly benefit from being planted in a soil enriched with well-rotted manure and fertilized throughout the growing season.
To encourage this rose to bloom all season long, it should be deadheaded frequently. Pruning is best performed in winter when this climber is dormant. Using clean and sharp pruning shears, remove any dead, diseased or rubbing branches and shorten any side shoots to 3-4 buds, before tying in any new stems.
Highwire Flyer™ Climbing Rose Spacing
Over time, the Highwire Flyer™ Climbing Rose can grow to a size of 5-6 feet tall and wide. To help prevent disease, it is advisable to grow this climber with ample space around it to aid air circulation.
