Talk about a purple blooming beauty. The Humdinger Orchid Annie Butterfly Bush begins as green foliage, and blooms in the summer with many large cones of small, purple flowers packed with detail. This bush can be admired in many ways, within the landscaping, as a border piece, or along fencing. It’s relatively compact so it could be reasoned to even plant this shrub within a container as an interesting statement piece.
With an abundance of nectar to provide, this bush is beloved by hummingbirds. Not only does it attract hummingbirds, but it’s also loved by both butterflies and by bees. If you’re a fan of pollinator viewing, this bush is a must add to the garden, perhaps close to the window so it can be enjoyed. It can be planted virtually anywhere with respect to wildlife, as it’s deer resistant as well.
Humdinger Orchid Annie Butterfly Bush Care
This perennial shrub thrives in hardiness zones five through ten. It prefers full sun, which pairs nicely with its drought tolerant character. Despite being drought tolerant, it would be the most healthy within moist and well drained soil. It’s best, if a long dry period is observed, to give this shrub a nice supplemental drink of water.
In the early spring, this shrub can be clipped to about a foot long stem before blooming. Bonus blooms can be observed in the Fall if spent blooms are removed.
Humdinger Orchid Annie Butterfly Bush Spacing
This shrub is compact in nature, and can grow two to three feet high. Due to its mounding nature, and large blooms, it should be spaced three to four feet apart.
