These blooms have an amazing fragrance! Illuminati Arch® Mock orange is the new and improved version of a classic favorite. Intoxicatingly sweet perfume wafts from its lovely white flowers all throughout Spring. Expect more of a tidy suave appearance, compared to the original, Philadelphus coronarius. Its arching branches of dark green leaves are handsome even when the blooms are gone. This shrub makes the perfect striking specimen reaching 4 feet in size.
This tough little deciduous shrub is hardy to zones 4 to 7b. Expect Mock Orange to be a delight for all of the senses. Let the aroma fill the air and enjoy the breathtaking fountain of white draping blooms. It even works great in a container since it has that thriller element. You won’t mind that this beauty is the star romance in your garden. It’s ok, we can keep a secret.
Illuminati Arch® Mock Orange Care
With just a little bit of maintenance, Mock Orange will be a delightful novelty of Spring. Even though it can take partial sun, full sunlight conditions promote more flower growth. It has average water and soil needs. It prefers more moist soil, so mulching around the base will help to retain moisture in the soil. Once it is established, it is somewhat drought tolerant, but additional irrigation may be needed for those hot summer days. Add an all-purpose fertilizer or compost annually to keep blooms at their best.
Annual pruning is recommended, but honestly, not much in the way of pruning is needed. Wait till after flowering has occurred to prune since blooms develop on old wood. Flowering typically occurs in late Spring or early Summer. Cut out any dead or broken branches and only cut up to â…“ of the total growth on the entire plant at one time.
Illuminati Arch® Mock Orange Spacing
Space plants 4 feet apart from each other. Since it has a vase-shaped habit, it will need that space in between to be able to drape down. Use Mock orange as an addition to a shrub border or stagger plants to create a loose informal hedge.
