Growing Zones
Lavandula angustifolia ‘Imperial Gem’ English Lavender is a sun-loving, compact English Lavender loaded with fragrant, silvery-green foliage that bears dense spikes of long-lasting deep violet-purple wands of flowers. The flowers open in mid-June and rebloom throughout summer. Imperial Gem Lavender makes a lovely impression when planted in groups for maximum sensory impact. Its compact habit is round and well balanced without being top-heavy once it flowers. It was bred to have superb pest and disease resistance.
Imperial Gem Lavender is stunning when grown as a colorful hedge. It is drought, heat, and humidity tolerant once established; it is also critter resistant but welcomes beneficial pollinators. It grows in Hardiness Zones 5-9, reaching 2 ft in height and width. Bring their invigorating stems and flowers indoors and add them to arrangements and crafts, or use them in your favorite aromatherapy projects.
Imperial Gem Lavender Care
Plant in a full sun location ideally south facing, in a spot where Imperial Gem Lavender will receive at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. It will grow in average soils, including gravelly soils. Take care not to overwater Imperial Gem Lavender as it can cause crown rot. Cut back and use flower stalks after they have finished blooming in summer. Entire plants can be trimmed and shaped in early spring before new growth appears for the growing season.
Its compact growth habit is ideal for growing in containers; make sure the container has plenty of drainage holes because Imperial Gem Lavender does not thrive in damp, soggy soils.
Imperial Gem Lavender Spacing
Space Imperial Gem Lavender about 24 inches apart, center on center, to allow the plant room to grow to its mature width. Imperial Gem Lavender is lovely when planted in mass groupings and used as a small, flowering, scented hedge near walkways and patios.
