The Inca Candy Peruvian Lily is a tropical beauty that will turn heads wherever you plant this low-maintenance perennial. The deep pink trumpet-shaped blooms have a slight ruffle, and the top and bottom petals feature a splash of white dotted with dark flecks. This continuous bloomer will push out striking flowers spring through fall. The flowers are surrounded by narrow sword-shaped leaves in a deep shade of green.
As a dwarf plant, this Alstroemeria maintains a compact size, making it a perfect addition to a container on a porch or patio or near the front of garden beds. Use this plant in borders or to create a stunning mass planting. The blooms make excellent and long-lasting cut flowers for added convenience. Alstroemeria is native to South America and grows as a perennial in USDA zones 7 through 10.
Inca Candy™ Peruvian Lily Care
The Inca Candy Peruvian Lily needs full to part sun so that the ideal spot will receive at least 4 hours of sunlight, but closer to 6 hours of daylight is better. Water when the top inch of the soil dries out. The soil should retain some moisture but allow for drainage. Alstroemeria grows from rhizomes, which store water but cannot handle soggy conditions. The soil should have a 5.5 to 6.5 pH.
Deadhead this Peruvian Lily to keep it looking amazing and help it retain its compact growth habit. Remove dead growth at any time, but this plant generally does not need much pruning. Feed this flowering beauty with an all-purpose, water-soluble fertilizer high in nitrogen, such as 10-5-5 or 12-4-8. Fertilize every other week during the growing season. Every few years, divide the rhizomes to create more plants. Dig the roots up, carefully separate the rhizomes and replant.
Inca Candy™ Peruvian Lily Spacing
The Inca Candy Peruvian Lily is a dwarf plant that will reach 8 to 12 inches high by 14 to 16 inches wide. Space plants 16 inches apart to create a dense, mass planting. One plant can comfortably live in a 12-inch container.
