Enjoy beautiful, continuous flowers with the Inca Coral Peruvian Lily. This plant, also known as Alstroemeria, is not a true lily, but it does resemble its namesake. The tips of the petals are a beautiful deep coral color that fades into a light, almost white, near the center. The topmost petal features a yellow horizontal stripe dotted with dark specs. Multiple trumpet-shaped blooms grow from a sturdy central stem. The narrow green foliage comes to a point and provides a lovely contrast against the coral blooms.
This perennial blooms from spring through fall, making it a lovely plant to include in a border or mass planting. As a dwarf plant with a compact growth habit, the Inca Coral Peruvian Lily is a natural to feature in a container. The blooms are long-lasting and also make excellent cut flowers. This plant is a perennial in USDA zones 7 through 10, and it grows as an annual in all other areas.
Inca Coral™ Peruvian Lily Care
Place this Peruvian Lily in an area with part to full sun. This plant likes moist soil and will need water when the top inch of the soil dries out. The soil should have a pH of 5.5 to 6.5 and should be well-draining. While Alstroemeria likes moist conditions, soggy soil will promote root rot.
Remove spent flowers to keep this stunner looking good and prevent the stems from becoming leggy. Starting in the spring, feed the Alstroemeria using a water-soluble plant food with a ratio like 10-5-5 or 12-4-8. Apply the fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season. The plant may outgrow its space in a few years, so dig up the roots in the spring, divide the rhizomes, and replant.
Inca Coral™ Peruvian Lily Spacing
This plant will grow 8 to 12 inches tall by 14 to 16 inches wide. Plants can be spaced 16 inches apart when used in a border or mass planting or spread further apart if that is the desired look. One Peruvian Lily can grow in a 12-inch container.
