Brighten up your outdoor space with the Inca Gold Rush Peruvian Lily. The bold, yellow blooms have a pinkish-orange center and dark specs that add dimension. Narrow green foliage that comes to a point surrounds each trumpet-shaped flower. This plant blooms spring through fall for a cheery addition to beds, borders, and containers. Peruvian Lilies are native to South America, and this plant grows as a perennial in USDA zones 7 through 10.
The Peruvian Lily also goes by the name Alstroemeria. The Inca Gold Rush cultivar is a dwarf variety that will grow 8 to 12 inches tall, making it well suited to the front of beds or used as a filler in a container. Plant several together to create a lovely mass planting. The vibrant flowers are a favorite with florists because they make excellent and long-lasting cut flowers.
Inca Gold Rush™ Peruvian Lily Care
Alstroemeria is a tuberous perennial that grows from rhizomes. It prefers consistently moist soil, so water when the top inch of soil dries out. Use a well-draining medium because as much as this plant likes damp conditions, Alstroemeria does not like to be water-logged. The soil pH should be 5.5 to 6.5, and this plant needs part to full sunlight. Feed the plant using a water-soluble fertilizer high in nitrogen every other week during the bloom cycle.
Pruning is not typically necessary, but remove dead growth as needed. Remove spent flowers to keep the Inca Gold Rush Peruvian Lily looking good and help maintain a more compact growth habit. Alstroemeria can be propagated through division, so if the plant outgrows its spot, simply dig it up in the spring, separate the roots and replant in a spot in need of some vibrant color.
Inca Gold Rush™ Peruvian Lily Spacing
This plant will top out around 8 to 12 inches tall, and it should spread out 14 to 16 inches. Peruvian Lilies can be planted 16 inches apart to create a lush mass planting or give them more room to spread out with time. One plant can easily fill a 12-inch container.
