The Inca Noble Peruvian Lily adds a regal flair to an outdoor space. This easy-care plant is versatile and effortlessly dresses up any bed or container. Bold trumpet-shaped purple flowers have a white throat and dark specs that add dimension. The flowers are surrounded by dark green foliage that comes to a point and lines the tall and sturdy stems. Also known as the Lily of the Inca or by its scientific name, Alstroemeria, this tropical plant hails from South America.
Feature this dwarf plant near the front of beds or in borders or mass plantings. Alstroemeria makes a wonderful filler in a container, and the long-lasting blooms make excellent cut flowers. The beautiful flowers are known to attract pollinators like bees. Peruvian Lilies grow as a perennial in USDA zones 7 through 10, although this plant is commonly grown as an annual in other areas.
Inca Noble™ Peruvian Lily Care
Alstroemeria thrives in full sun to part shade. This plant needs at least 4 hours of sunlight to push out flowers. Soil should be rich with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Water when the top inch of the soil is dry. Plants in the ground will benefit from a layer of mulch to retain moisture. Container-grown plants will need to stay on a consistent water schedule.
Fertilize the plant every other week to help sustain growth. Use a water-soluble plant food high in nitrogen with a ratio like 10-5-5 or 12-4-8. Remove any old growth at the start of the growing season and deadhead the plant throughout the bloom cycle. The Inca Noble Peruvian Lily can be propagated through division. Spring is the best time to divide the plant.
Inca Noble™ Peruvian Lily Spacing
The Inca Noble Peruvian Lily maintains a compact growth habit and reaches 8 to 12 inches tall and 14 to 16 inches wide. Alstroemeria can be planted as close as 16 inches or spaced further depending on the look you want to achieve. Select a large container for a single plant, or divide the plant if growing as part of a combination container.
