Inca Ocean Peruvian Lily is a dwarf variety of Alstroemeria that features showy flowers throughout the growing season. The petals of the trumpet-shaped flowers have lavender tips and fade to white near the center. Hints of yellow and dark markings add even more visual interest to the blooms. This upright plant features dark green foliage that provides a lovely contrast against the bi-color flowers. Alstroemeria grows as a perennial in USDA zones 7 through 10 and is native to South America.
This plant will command attention wherever it is planted, and it can commonly be found in borders, mass plantings, and containers. Due to the compact growth habit, plant Alstroemeria near the front of a bed or use it as a filler in a container. The long-lasting blooms are prized as cut flowers since they typically hold up for several weeks. The beautiful flowers attract bees and other pollinators.
Inca Ocean™ Peruvian Lily Care
This plant needs part to full sunlight to thrive. Plant in an area that receives 4 to 6 hours of sunlight exposure. Water when the top layer of the soil is dry. Alstroemeria grown in the ground can benefit from a layer of mulch to hold in the moisture. Container-grown plants will need water weekly, depending on the weather and conditions. Use rich, well-draining soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5.
Remove old growth at the start of the growing season and trim back dead growth as needed. Remove spent flowers to encourage more blooms. Routinely fertilize every other week using a nitrogen-rich fertilizer with a ratio like 10-5-5. If the plant outgrows its spot, it can be divided during the spring.
Inca Ocean™ Peruvian Lily Spacing
Once mature, the Inca Ocean Peruvian Lily will be 8 to 12 inches tall and 14 to 16 inches wide. Each Alstroemeria can be planted as close as 16 inches for mass plantings. Give the plants more room if you want to maintain space between plantings or if you want to give them a big enough area to spread out.
