Growing Zones
Ivory Halo is a more compact variety of the well known Cornus alba 'Elegantissima’. The shocking red branches are enveloped in wonderful green and white variegated leaves, while having a shorter height that works in the smaller garden much better. Only reaching 4-6 feet, Ivory Halo needs little pruning to keep it within bounds.
Cornus alba has deciduous leaves, but year round interest. The variegated leaves in summer give Ivory Halo a refreshing feel in the heat of summer. The autumn color of the foliage is beautiful. The deep red of the branches in winter are a welcome sight when everything is covered in snow. Cornus alba is good in a wide range of hardiness zones, making it accessible for most gardens.
Ivory Halo® Dogwood Care
Dogwood are easily grown in a range of solid from clay to sandy. It is not partial to any pH level, tolerating acid to alkaline soil. Full sun to part shade is equally fine. Dogwoods do like moist soil that is well draining. Some additional irrigation during hot spells will be needed.
Maintenance only involves the right time of year to prune to keep the branches red. A hard cut back late in the winter or after the last frost in the lower hardiness zones is the key. The new growth during the summer will be straight and robust and red.
Ivory Halo® Dogwood Spacing
Ivory Halo® Dogwood reaches a height of 4-6 feet and spreads 4-6 feet. When planting dogwood space the plants 5-6 feet on center. This will ensure that good air circulation is available.
