Enjoy superb, super sweet raspberry crops in summer and fall as Jaclyn produces fruit twice a year. Very sweet, dark red fruits adhere tightly to the plant until fully ripe. Jacyln is a vigorous producer, with large, firm fruits packed with sweet flavor. The fruits are ideal for jams, pies, ice cream, and fresh eating. This variety has canes that aren’t overly thorny, and was bred for excellent disease and cold resistance.
Jaclyn Raspberry Plant Care
Jaclyn is a self-pollinating raspberry variety grown in USDA Hardiness Zones 3-8. This bushy plant reaches a height of 4-6 ft. with an equal spread. It has excellent pest and disease resistance and is very cold hardy.
Jaclyn raspberries grow best in moderately acid soil, ranging between 5.5 to 6.5 on the pH scale. Select a planting site in full sun for heavy fruit production. The soil should have a light loam texture, with plenty of organic garden compost and organic matter to help feed plants.
Growing Jaclyn Raspberry Plant
Plant Jaclyn in a full sun location to produce the most fruit, at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Jacyln Raspberry prefers well-amended, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Raspberries do not grow well in compact clay soil, so amend the soil as necessary with compost or well-rotted manure. Dig a hole large and deep enough to accommodate the roots, allowing them to spread out in the hole. Make sure the crown of the plant is at the soil level.
Raspberries require staking or support to protect the canes from wind damage and bending over, and to promote healthier and more productive plants. The goal is to keep the canes and fruit off the ground and have ample walking space between plants for harvesting. Apply a light layer of natural bark or mulched leaves for an added layer of winter protection.
Watering Jaclyn Raspberry Plant
Water Jaclyn regularly and deeply from spring throughout the fall harvest. Raspberries need at least 1 - 1 1/2 inches of water per 7-10 days, from flowering until harvest; this includes rainfall accumulation. The roots do not tolerate waterlogged soil, so check a few inches down into the soil to determine soil moisture levels.
Feeding Jaclyn Raspberry Plant
Apply 2 inches of organic compost or well-rotted manure as a side dressing a few inches around each plant in spring as a nutrient supplement. Raspberry plants can be fed with an organic, water-soluble, liquid fertilizer specifically formulated for berry/fruit production, following the application instructions on the label.
