  • High Carbon Japanese Steel Blades
  • Hard Chrome Plating
  • 3/4" Cutting Capacity
  • PVC Comfort Grips

Japanese Style Pruning Shear is a compact hand pruner built for clean, controlled cuts when you’re working in tighter spaces. The heat-treated SK-5 Japanese steel blades come razor sharp, and the hard chrome plating helps prevent sap from gumming up the cut and improves rust resistance. At 7 inches long and only 5.7 ounces, it’s easy to keep in a pocket or apron and comfortable for quick pruning sessions. We've found this is an excellent smaller shear that feels precise on live stems.

The torsion spring is designed for long-lasting return action, so the tool stays responsive through repeated snips. PVC grips add comfort and control, especially when you’re deadheading, shaping, or harvesting and making lots of small cuts in a row. With a 3/4-inch cutting capacity, it’s best used on green growth, perennials, and smaller shrub stems rather than thick, woody branches.

Product Tips

  • Use it on live, green stems for the cleanest cut and easiest recovery for the plant.
  • Keep the stem seated deeper in the blades for better leverage on thicker cuts.
  • Wipe the blades during sappy jobs; chrome plating helps, but clean blades stay smoother.
  • A drop of light oil at the pivot keeps the torsion spring action feeling crisp.
  • Store closed and dry to protect the edge between uses.

FAQs

What is SK-5 steel?

SK-5 is a high-carbon Japanese steel known for taking a sharp edge and holding it well when properly heat treated.

How to use the Japanese Style Pruning Shear?

Open the blades fully, place the stem deep in the cutting area, and align the cutting blade on the side of the stem you want to keep. Squeeze in one smooth motion to finish the cut without twisting. Wipe the blades clean after use and store the shear dry.

What does hard chrome plating do?

It helps resist rust and reduces sap buildup, so the blades are less likely to stick and are easier to clean.

What can I cut with a 3/4" capacity?

This size is ideal for deadheading, harvesting, perennials, and smaller shrub stems up to 3/4 inch, depending on wood hardness.

What warranty comes with it?

It’s covered under A.M. Leonard’s lifetime warranty program.
