Jewel of Desert® Moonstone Ice Plant, or Delosperma, delivers a profusion of fresh, daisy-like, white flowers with yellow centers in spring and all season long until frost. Hardy Ice Plants are native to South Africa. Jewel of Desert® Moonstone Iceplant is a densely spreading, heavily flowering perennial that thrives in tough places. This beauty is ideal for water-wise alpine rocky landscapes.

Jewel of Desert® Moonstone Ice Plant is a vigorous ground-hugging grower, reaching heights of 4-6 inches tall and spreading up to 12 inches wide. It produces loads of nectar and pollen-rich flowers that attract butterflies, bees, and beneficial pollinators. Use this easy-care plant for dry, hot areas; its long-blooming season and deer resistance make it excellent for growing in rock gardens, containers, and banks and slopes.

Jewel of the Desert Moonstone Ice Plant Care

Plant Jewel of Desert® Moonstone Ice Plant in a full sun location, ideally in well-drained soil. Once established, it can be quite drought tolerant and will tolerate soils that are sandy and gravelly. Water sparsely throughout the growing season; Moonstone Ice Plant will not tolerate continual wet conditions. It benefits from a thin layer of small gravel mulch surrounding the plant.

Jewel of Desert® Moonstone Ice Plant is virtually maintenance-free once established and remains full and lush throughout the growing season. In the first year, pamper it to get it established, but once it matures, it can thrive in the poorest growing conditions.

Jewel of the Desert Moonstone Ice Plant Spacing

Jewel of Desert® Moonstone Ice Plant is ideal for large mass plantings; they are a fantastic choice for banks and slopes, rock gardens, in the front of a perennial border, and as a colorful showy groundcover. Space Jewel of the Desert Moonstone Ice Plant 12 inches apart to allow for full mature growth. If a thick groundcover effect is desired, space plants slightly closer than 10 inches.
