Showy blooms make the Joan Senior Daylily or Hemerocallis 'Joan Senior' a stellar addition to a space. The large flowers measure 6 inches wide and bloom from June through July. White flowers grow on tall, upright stems. The creamy petals have ruffled edges, pale yellow markings, and a light green eye for a hint of drama. This beauty reblooms, so you’ll have plenty of time to admire the stunning flowers.
Feature this Daylily in borders, beds, or containers. Plant it near the middle or back of a mixed bed so the tall, showy flowers can add height without blocking other plants. The Joan Senior Daylily is exceptionally drought tolerant, making this plant a good pick in arid climates or for forgetful gardeners. Grow this clump-forming plant in zones 3 through 8.
Joan Senior Daylily Care
Joan Senior Daylilies need full to part sun to bloom and grow well. Plant in fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Water consistently for the first growing season. Established plants are tolerant of dry conditions, but water during a drought to support continued flowering. Fertilize using a balanced plant food while the plant is blooming.
Deadhead spent flowers to encourage more lovely blooms. Trim growth to ground level after the first frost. Divide full plants in the spring to give the plants room to spread and revitalize older clumps.
Joan Senior Daylily Spacing
Joan Senior Daylily grows 20 to 25 inches tall and 20 to 24 inches wide. Space plants 24 inches apart. Daylilies are clump-forming and will fill in empty spaces, so leave room when planting so they will have a couple of years to become established before they must be divided.
