Delphiniums are one of the crown jewels of perennials. With tall, branching stems of delicate, pink flowers showcased against ruffled, green foliage, the Juliette Bee Delphinium brings a sweet softness to any garden. The flowers bloom from spring to summer and have multiple semi-double blooms that can rebloom. This plant can reach a height and width of up to 18-24 inches, so you don’t need to stake it.
Juliette Bee produces bountiful, long-lived flowers that attract butterflies and hummingbirds galore! Hot and cold weather tolerant, the mounded form of its foliage makes it perfect for mass plantings or highlighting in a decorative container. Resistant to deer and disease, this perennial is incredibly low maintenance and easy to grow. Delphiniums make a fantastic addition to cottage-style and prairie-style gardens, especially.
Juliette Bee Delphinium Care
Plant Juliette Bee Delphiniums in moist, well-drained soil with access to full sun. All parts of delphiniums are poisonous when eaten, so make sure you plant them in an area away from housepets or where small children can easily access them. Provide up to one inch of water per week; you can water less if there is adequate rainfall. Fertilize your delphiniums by adding a slow-release granular food in early spring and then applying a layer of compost to new plantings later in the spring. During the summer, fertilize with a fish emulsion formula about every two to three weeks, depending on your needs. Make sure to remove spent flowers all season to promote new growth and more blooms!
In late fall or early winter, prune back any frosted foliage to aid in new growth in the spring. For winter care, water delphiniums during extended, dry periods unless the ground is too cold to accept moisture. Once the first killing frost has passed, cut back the plants to about six to eight inches in height and mulch with a dry mulch made of either straw, dry grass cuttings, pine needles, or chopped leaves. Do not use whole leaves, however, which can harbor pests and potentially smother the crown. In containers, use moisture-retaining soil in a pot at least 3 gallons in size with plenty of drainage holes.
Juliette Bee Delphinium Spacing
These blooms are perfect for showcasing in a border or bed. Plant them in an area with protection from the wind to preserve the tall stalks of flowers. When planting, the top of the rootball should be level with the soil, and plants should be spaced about 1-3 feet apart.
