The lovely variegated foliage of the June Hosta is stunning. This leafy perennial features broad, heart-shaped foliage. When the leaves emerge in the spring, they have green centers and blue margins, and as the growing season progresses, the green centers turn a vibrant shade of chartreuse. Tall flower scapes with lavender blooms hover over the foliage by late July.

The Hosta tardiana is a low-maintenance and hardy plant. Plant Hosta in partial sun as part of a group to create a teeming and full display. Create a colorful border along a walkway, fence, or foundation wall. The June Hosta grows as a perennial in USDA zones 3 through 8.

June Hosta Care

This Hosta needs partial sun and will generally do best in a spot that receives morning sun and afternoon shade. Keep the soil damp during the first year, but established plants can be drought-tolerant, especially when grown in lower light. Soil should be rich and well-drained. Apply a balanced fertilizer each spring to get the plant off to a good start.

Remove the flower scapes after the blooms fade to keep the plant looking tidy and prevent the Hosta from self-seeding. Trim back all of the growth after the first frost. Hosta can be propagated through division every few years.

June Hosta Spacing

This upright plant will reach 15 to 18 inches tall. The foliage will spread out 24 to 30 inches. Plants can be spaced 22 to 28 inches apart when creating a border or continuous planting.
