Just Chill™ Camellias are bred to be durable and reliable bloomers even at the lower end of their growing range. Double Mauve Camellia is an early bloomer that displays fully double icy pink flowers with cheery yellow anthers early in the new year. Deep green, leathery foliage makes an impressive backdrop year-round for other flowering shrubs and perennials. The fragrant flowers provide late-season nutrition for a whole host of pollinators that are not yet in hibernation.

Plant Just Chill™ Double Mauve Camellia as part of an informal, blooming hedge or near an entryway to add late-season color and year-round elegance. Combining Camellias with different blooming periods makes for a great show of understated color throughout the winter and early spring. Deer rarely browse the dense and thick foliage even during the lean winter months. Just Chill™ Camellias aren't just designed to withstand cold winters and bloom no matter the last frost date, they are also incredibly heat tolerant in the South and West of the United States.

Just Chill™ Double Mauve Camellia Care

Camellias bloom best in partly shaded and sheltered spots with at least 4 hours of direct sun. Full sun locations tend to scorch the flowers and bleach the foliage. Camellias require acidic soil (5.0-6.9) to retain deep green foliage and large flowers. Fertilize early in the summer with a formulation for acid-loving shrubs and trees.

Water this evergreen shrub 2-3 times a week until it is fully established. Supplemental watering is typically only required during periods of drought in the summer and fall. Camellias flower on the previous year’s growth and may produce smaller flowers if they dry out too much late in the growing season. Mulch with compost or arborist chips annually to aid in moisture retention and improve soil texture.

Deadhead spent flowers as soon as possible at the end of flowering. The shrub begins to form the buds for next year’s flowers during the summer months. Pruning before flowering or too late in the summer will remove potential flowers. Rejuvenation pruning can be performed early in the spring before any new growth emerges. This will prevent blooming, but allow the Camellia to recover fully during the period of active growth.

Just Chill™ Double Mauve Camellia Spacing

The mature shape of Just Chill™ Double Mauve Camellia is vertical and slim at 5-8 feet tall and 3-5 feet wide. Space multiple plants 3-4 feet apart, center on center. Camellias can be grown for many years in planters or other large containers. Their overall size will be restricted, but the plants will stay healthy and vigorous with consistent watering and a regular fertilizing schedule.
