Brighten landscapes during fall and winter with Just Chill™ Double White Camellia’s pristine double flowers. The large white blooms are offset by lustrous broadleaf emerald foliage. With its bounteous blooms and evergreen foliage, this shrub, also known as Camellia x ‘FARROWCJWD’, adds year-round interest to landscapes and containers. Its thick-petaled flowers emanate a pleasant fragrance that captivates pollinators, including birds, butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, late in the season.
Add this upright bush, originating from Asia, to borders, beds, and containers. It works as either a thriller or filler in a container combination. Magnify its dramatic color by planting it en masse or in a hedge. Plant it as a specimen in a container and add focal interest to a patio, deck, or entryway. While beautiful, its glossy leaves and delicate flowers are durable and tough. It is cold hardy in zones 6-9, heat tolerant, and deer resistant.
Just Chill™ Double White Camellia Care
Plant Just Chill™ in partial shade to full sun. In warmer climates, morning sun followed by afternoon shade will help protect the showy leaves from sunburning. Plant it in rich, well-draining, slightly acidic soil. An optimum soil pH range is 6.0 to 6.5. Improve poorly draining soil by mixing in compost. Apply an organic slow-release fertilizer designed for acid-loving plants, such as Holly-tone (4-3-4) or FoxFarm Happy Frog® Acid Loving Plants Fertilizer (4-5-3), during spring and fall. Provide one inch of water weekly during periods of insufficient rainfall.
Prune for shape or size shortly after the blooming season has ended. To help insulate the roots from chilly temperatures, apply 2 to 3 inches of mulch in the fall. For container plants, do not water unless the top 2 inches of soil are dry. Fertilize monthly during the growing season. To overwinter in colder climates, bring the pot indoors and place it in a location with cool temperatures below 60 degrees.
Just Chill™ Double White Camellia Spacing
This showy shrub grows to heights of 5 to 8 feet and spreads of 3 to 5 feet. Space each shrub 3 to 5 feet apart. Plant it in hedges, beds, and containers. To create continuous color year-round, plant it near azaleas, rhododendrons, gardenias, begonias, daphne, magnolias, and hellebores.
