Karl’s Big Stem is a beautiful landscape architectural plant. It is an upright, ornamental grass with blue-green, slender, blades. Flowers form in August along tall stems. In Autumn, the blades change color to showcase hues of blue and purple. It provides year-round interest in the garden.
Karl’s Cousin Big Stem is a North American Native grass. It grows 3-4 feet tall and spreads 12-15 inches wide. It is a winter hardy perennial in USDA zones 4-9. It provides shelter for wildlife and a seed source for native birds. This cultivar resists flopping over. A great selection for an accent plant in the garden. Grows well in tighter spaces and in containers. Can be used for soil erosion control. Has resistance to deer.
Karl's Cousin® Big Bluestem Grass Care
Plant in full sun and in well-drained soil. Water regularly the first year of planting. Drought tolerant once established. Can cut back to 4-6 inches in early spring. Fertilize annually with an organic fertilizer.
