The contrasting purple and yellow blooms of the Kickin® Sapphire Fall Aster will certainly add some late-summer color to the garden. Growing to around 2 to 3 feet tall, this Aster is versatile and can be used in many garden applications. It develops double blue-purple flowers with a yellow center in late summer and will continue to bloom right into the fall.
With little ongoing care required, the Kickin® Sapphire Fall Aster is considered low maintenance. Butterflies love its flowers and it is even left alone by deer and rabbits, making it perfect for any countryside location. For a mass of color, you can plant Kickin® Sapphire Fall Aster in a group. However, it is also perfectly suited for growing in a large container or dotting around a rock garden.
Kickin® Sapphire Fall Aster Care
The Kickin® Sapphire Fall Aster is happiest when grown in full sun, but will also cope with some light shade. It prefers fertile and moist soil that is also free draining. Water it well upon planting and then regularly for the first season. Asters do not like boggy soil, so it is best to err on the dry side if you are unsure. To give this plant a boost, you can apply a mulch of garden compost around the base of the plant in spring.
With a dense habit, no pinching in spring is required for a compact plant and a mass of blooms. In fall as the foliage dies back, cut the stems down to 2 to 3 inches high. In colder parts, any container-grown specimens can be moved to a covered area to protect them from the cold.
Kickin® Sapphire Fall Aster Spacing
Over time the Kickin® Sapphire Fall Aster can reach 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. For a mass of color you can grow this aster at a spacing of around three feet apart.
