For an interesting and unique shrub check out the Kintzley's Ghost® Honeysuckle. This Lonicera reticulata produces green foliage typical of other honeysuckles, followed by fragrant yellow blooms in late spring and subsequent silver rounded bracts. A vining honeysuckle, Kintzley's Ghost® can grow to 6 to 12 feet tall over time.
The Kintzley's Ghost® Honeysuckle is suitable for growing in zones 4 to 8 and is drought tolerant once established. Known to attract pollinators and hummingbirds, it is an American native and is not considered invasive. Kintzley's Ghost® is a great shrub for providing vertical interest up an arbor or trellis. It can also be planted en masse to provide screening.
Kintzley's Ghost® Honeysuckle Care
The Kintzley's Ghost® Honeysuckle is happiest in full sun to partial shade. It can tolerate most soil types as long as they are free draining yet moist. Regular watering is needed to help it establish, after which it can cope with dry spells. Fertilizing is not strictly required; however, a slow-release, balanced feed applied in early spring will give it a boost.
As the Kintzley's Ghost® Honeysuckle blooms on old wood, any pruning should be carried out immediately after flowering. Trim as required for shape and appearance.
Kintzley's Ghost® Honeysuckle Spacing
Over time, the Kintzley's Ghost® Honeysuckle can grow to 6 to 12 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet across. A spacing of 3 to 5 feet will allow the vines to spread and fill out.
