Large flowers have a velvety look and boast a vibrant orange hue making the Kismet™ Intense Orange Coneflower the centerpiece of a planting when the flowers bloom in the summer. This Echinacea has the typical good looks of a coneflower with long, narrow petals with rounded ends that surround a large, center seed cone. The flowers bloom on long stems that also have dark green foliage.
This coneflower has an upright, mounded growth habit, so it looks very full, but it has a compact form, meaning it can easily fit into small spaces or be just one plant in a large mixed perennial bed. Feature in beds, borders, mass plantings, or containers. Cut the tall stems to include the blooms in arrangements. This beauty attracts pollinators, but it is resistant to foraging animals like deer and rabbits. The Kismet™ Intense Orange Coneflower is low-maintenance and heat-tolerant and grows as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.
Kismet™ Intense Orange Coneflower Care
Coneflowers are easy to care for, but they require full sun, so plant in an area that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight. Use soil high in organic content that is moist but well-drained. Water the coneflower when the top few inches of soil feel dry. This plant is drought-tolerant, but keeping up with routine watering will ensure consistent flowering. An application of balanced fertilizer in the spring or top-dressing the soil with organic mulch will encourage plenty of growth.
Remove spent flowers to redirect energy into increased flower production and clean up the look of the plant. Trim back all of the growth in the fall or leave the flowers in place so this beauty can self-seed and provide food for small birds.
Kismet™ Intense Orange Coneflower Spacing
The Kismet™ Intense Orange Coneflower is a mounded, upright perennial that will grow 16 to 18 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. Space plants 14 to 22 inches apart when creating a consistent planting.
