The Kismet™ Red Coneflower, also known as the Echinacea Kismet ‘Red’ perennial, will add a vibrant pop of red to your garden. Its impressive flowers can range from 3 to 4 inches in diameter and feature eye-catching orangey cones in their centers. These lovely warm tones stand out against the plant’s deep green foliage. Apart from its natural beauty, this perennial also offers long bloom times - the buds will begin to open up in the latter half of spring and will last until the first frost. Upon reaching maturity, your perennial may reach a height ranging between 16 to 18 inches and a spread of about 18 to 24 inches. These plants are popular with an array of critters, so you can expect bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies to visit.
Native to North America, this fragrant, herbaceous perennial is both deer and rabbit resistant as well as drought tolerant. It has a fast growth rate and a mounded, upright growth habit. Since the Kismet™ Red Coneflower requires little maintenance, it is the ideal plant for a beginner gardener. You simply need to keep an eye out for thrips as these may appear as your plant begins to flower. You can use these in borders, containers, mass planting, and wildlife gardens.
Kismet™ Red Coneflower Plant Care
Your perennial will grow best when getting a minimum of 6 hours of full sun. Moist to dry, well-drained soil with a pH ranging from 5.8 to 7.3 is recommended. It can tolerate both clay and sandy-type soils. This plant requires an average amount of watering, just be sure to let it dry moderately between each watering. For fertilizer, you can use a low to medium release rate liquid feed when transplanting your perennial plant and once every spring.
The Kismet™ Red Coneflower doesn’t require pruning. You can dehead it to boost new flower production but cutting back your plant will delay its bloom time.
