Long lasting daisy-like petals surround the large, chartreuse colored cone centers at the tips of the 16 to 18 inch stems that arise from the 18 to 24 inch base and bloom from June through October. Each bright, yellow flower can persist for up to two weeks and contrasts nicely against the dark green lanceolate leaves.
A tough, drought tolerant, low maintenance perennial with an upright growth habit and few insect pests or diseases. Attracts a wide variety of beneficial insects and pollinators. Resistant to deer and small herbivores. Winter hardy in zones 4 to 8. Coneflower would be an amazing addition to a wildflower garden, a dry garden, perennial garden, walkway or pathway planting, used in a mass planting or grown in pots containers. Plants grown in pots or containers would need to be planted in garden soil for the winter where temperatures fall below freezing for an extended period of time and repotted in spring. Native to North America.
Kismet® Yellow Coneflower Care
Coneflower prefers average garden soil and thrives in hot, dry conditions. Will do well in sandy, but moist, well-drained soils and is tolerant of a wide pH range.
Prune spent flowers and stem back to the next bloom or growth to stimulate the development of more buds. Plants and faded flowers may be left up during winter to provide food for birds and pruned back to the ground in early spring. Remove any plants grown in pots or containers and plant in garden soil for winter and repot the plant in spring. Alternatively, the pots or containers could be stored indoors for the winter in a cool, but sunny area that is above freezing.
Kismet® Yellow Coneflower Spacing
Plants should be spaced approximately 24 inches apart if grown as a mass planting, in the perennial border, patio, walkway or pathway planting or if grown in pots or containers.
