Rhaphiolepis indica is a dense evergreen that also goes by Indian Hawthorn. The La Vida Grande Rhaphiolepis Indica will leave an impression for all of the right reasons, thanks to its dainty star-shaped pink flowers that bloom on large panicles during the spring. New leaves are a dusky peach color to start and transition into a bright glossy green with age. This low-maintenance shrub grows as a perennial in USDA zones 8 through 10.
This flowering shrub is native to Asia and stands about 6 feet tall once mature, making it an excellent choice to use as a hedge or toward the back of a bed, in general landscaping, or a specimen. Rhaphiolepis indica is a perfect container plant that can brighten up a deck or patio space. The leathery foliage of this evergreen will stay in place and provide year-round color. The La Vida Grande Rhaphiolepis Indica is disease-resistant for added convenience and peace of mind.
La Vida Grande™ Indian Hawthorn Care
Part to full sun is essential to growing a healthy La Vida Grande Rhaphiolepis Indica. This plant needs at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight. Soil should be acidic with a pH of 6.0 - 7.5. The soil should also promote drainage because while this plant likes damp soil during its first year, too much water can be damaging.
This plant naturally maintains a rounded shape but trim back overgrowth as needed after the flowers die back. Indian Hawthorn is not a heavy feeder but apply a balanced slow-release plant food in the spring to encourage new growth.
La Vida Grande™ Indian Hawthorn Spacing
This shrub will max out at about 4 to 6 feet tall and wide. Space plants 6 feet apart if creating a hedge. Plant La Vida Grande Rhaphiolepis Indica about 7 to 8 feet away from buildings or other plants if you want to leave space around the shrub.
