Enjoy the beautiful flowers of the La Vida Mas Rhaphiolepis indica during the spring, summer, and fall. This reblooming stunner boasts star-shaped tubular flowers in a darling pink hue with a yellow eye. The long glossy green foliage narrows to a point and provides a vivid contrast against the flowers. This striking cultivar grows as a perennial in USDA growing zones 8 through 10.
This shrub has a compact growth habit so that it can be featured in borders or near the front of garden beds. Use this reblooming plant to create a low hedge or conceal a foundation wall, or feature this plant in a container. This plant has long been a favorite in southern landscapes because it is heat-tolerant, and this variety is also disease-resistant. As a matter of fact, this shrub is very low maintenance, so you can sit back and enjoy the showy flowers all summer long.
La Vida Mas™ Indian Hawthorn Care
La Vida Mas Rhaphiolepis indica requires part to full sun, but increased light levels will promote more plentiful blooms, so try to locate this plant in a spot that receives about 6 hours of daily sunlight exposure. Newly planted shrubs need consistently damp soil, and established plants are generally drought-tolerant, although giving the plant water during a dry spell will help support continued growth and blooming. Soil should be acidic and well-draining for best results.
Feed this shrub using a balanced slow-release fertilizer during the spring and again partway through the growing season to support the additional bloom cycles. Remove dead or damaged growth as necessary, but Rhaphiolepis indica typically does not need much pruning. You can shape the plant after the first round of flowers die back.
La Vida Mas™ Indian Hawthorn Spacing
The La Vida Mas Rhaphiolepis indica will grow to 1 to 2 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. Create a low hedge by spacing the plants about 4 feet apart. Space this shrub at least 5 feet from a building, so it has room to grow.
