The Ladybird™ Lemonade Texas Primrose calls the American southwest home, so it can easily handle the heat of USDA growing zones 8, 9, and 10. Thin, green foliage is overshadowed by vibrant yellow flowers that, with age, will fade to include tones of peach and pink. Expect plenty of flowers throughout the spring and summer on this mounding plant that can trail up to 12 inches. Once established, the Calylophus is very low maintenance and thrives with a slight amount of neglect.
This plant flourishes in just about any type of planting and is an excellent option for borders, edging, landscape, mass planting, and containers. Primrose plants have slight trailing tendencies, making for an excellent addition to planters and hanging baskets. The Ladybird™ Lemonade Texas Primrose is very well suited to the conditions of the southwest, as it is heat- and drought-tolerant while also being deer-resistant. This plant is known to attract bees, birds, and butterflies, so it looks lovely and helps support the local habitat.
Ladybird Lemonade Texas Primrose Plant Care
The ideal spot for Primerose will receive at least 6 hours of full sun. The plant has average water needs, so water when the top few inches of the soil is dry. The Ladybird™ Lemonade Texas Primrose is drought-tolerant and prefers low humidity. Use well-draining soil that is neutral to alkaline and has a pH of 6.6-8.5. Primrose is not a very heavy feeder. Fertilize when planting in the spring and again halfway through the summer for plants in the ground. Container plants can be fed once a month.
This plant is rather self-sufficient, and established plants need very little care. Deadheading or removing spent flowers is unnecessary, but doing so can maintain a clean appearance. The plant may appear leggy or scraggly halfway through the growing season, and a quick trim can solve this problem. Prune no more than ⅓ of the plant and follow up with a feeding to promote new growth and blooms.
Ladybird Lemonade Texas Primrose Plant Spacing
This Primrose is a mounding trailing plant that will grow to about 4 to 8 inches tall and spread out over 12 to 20 inches. Leave 8 to 12 inches around each plant, so it will have room to grow and fill in. When used as a container plant, include 2 to 3 plants in a 12-inch pot.
