Growing Zones
Lavender Guardian Larkspur boasts double blooms that grow on tall, thin flower spikes. This perennial is a head-turner, thanks to the lavender petals with slight hints of blue. Its flowers bloom from late May through early June and completely engulf the stems. This Delphinium variety has dark green, lush foliage.
Feature the Lavender Guardian Larkspur near the back of a bed so that the tall flower spikes will rise above the other plants. Larkspur looks stunning when planted as part of a large group. Trim some of the stems to display the blooms in an arrangement. This beauty attracts butterflies and hummingbirds and grows as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.
Lavender Guardian Larkspur Care
Plant the Lavender Guardian Larkspur in full to partial sun. This plant is not picky about soil pH, but the soil must be rich and well drained. Water when the top few inches of soil are dry. Feed Larkspur in the early spring and again after the flowers fade. Use plant food with a 5-12-5 NPK ratio.
Remove spent flower spikes to redirect energy into another flush of blooms later in the growing season. Lavender Guardian is an herbaceous perennial, and dead growth can be removed in the fall after the first frost.
Lavender Guardian Larkspur Spacing
This perennial stands 30 to 40 inches tall and 24 to 36 inches wide. Space these Larkspur 24 to 36 inches apart when creating a mass planting.
