The Lavender Ice Hardy Ice Plant is a mat-forming groundcover that can easily live in challenging conditions and adds a burst of color to a space. This Delosperma has 2-inch-wide, daisy-like flowers in an iridescent shade of lavender. The blooms are a darker shade of lavender near the center and bloom from June through August. The abundant blooms are surrounded by green, succulent-like, evergreen foliage.
This plant thrives in dry conditions, so feature Lavender Ice in rock gardens or areas that are not easy or convenient to water. This Hardy Ice Plant is heat and drought tolerant. The mat-forming growth habit makes this stunner an excellent groundcover or ‘spiller’ in a container, as the reaching stems can cascade over the pot's side. Pollinators like butterflies will frequent the flowers. Lavender Ice is a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.
Lavender Ice Hardy Ice Plant Care
The main requirements for the Lavender Ice Hardy Ice Plant are full sun and well-drained soil. This beauty needs at least 6 hours of daily sunlight. Newly planted Ice Plants need consistent water initially, but established plants do not like wet feet. Fertilize this plant using a balanced plant food in the fall.
Dead or damaged growth can be removed as needed. Prune this Hardy Ice Plant in mid-spring to shape the plant.
Lavender Ice Hardy Ice Plant Spacing
This plant has a low, spreading growth habit and creates a carpet of color and greenery. The Lavender Ice Hardy Ice Plant grows 2 to 3 inches tall and spreads 12 to 24 inches wide. Space plants 15 inches apart when used as solid groundcover.
