This shrub produces broad, green leaves that are mostly evergreen. Cymes of white-cream flowers cover the bush throughout summer. In the autumn, bright red berries provide a beautiful contrast against the green foliage. The berries last well into winter and provide a source of food for native birds. Provides year-round interest in your garden space.

Leatherleaf Viburnum is a low-maintenance perennial hedge growing 6-10 feet tall and wide. It is winter Hardy in USDA zones 5-8. This shrub also attracts birds and butterflies. Use as a specimen plant or around borders. Can also be used in multiple plantings to create a privacy hedge.

Leatherleaf Viburnum Care

Plant in full sun to part shade, well-drained soil. It prefers acidic soil. Tolerates alkaline and clay soils. Water regularly the first year of planting. Has some drought tolerance once established. This variety does not require fertilizer. Prune after flowers fade. Leaves my drop in extended periods of cold weather. Protect the plant from winter winds, especially in colder areas in the country and in dry periods throughout the winter. Mulch helps with winter cold protection, especially over the roots.

Leatherleaf Viburnum Spacing

This plant grows in a round, upright form and will fill in the void in a large empty space. It can be trimmed to maintain a smaller shape. Plant 10 feet apart, center on center to allow for enough air circulation.
