The Lemon Lights Azalea is a large, flowering shrub that puts on a stunning display during the spring. Large, trumpet-shaped blooms are a bold yellow color and grow in clusters. The fragrant flowers emerge before the foliage, but the green leaves fill in when flowering is complete. The foliage turns purple during the fall before dropping in the winter.

As a native plant, Lemon Lights is easy to maintain. Butterflies and hummingbirds are drawn to the beautiful flowers. This shrub has a rounded form and reaches 4 to 5 feet tall. Use this plant to conceal a foundation wall, create a low hedge, or adorn a garden bed. The hardy Lemon Lights Azalea is a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.

Lemon Lights Azalea Care

The Lemon Lights Azalea needs full to partial sunlight. The ideal spot will receive at least 4 to 6 hours of daylight. Azaleas prefer soil that is rich, slightly acidic, and well drained. This shrub has average water needs and should be watered regularly during the growing season. Feed the plant to keep it healthy and encourage lots of flowers. Use a balanced fertilizer or a product formulated for acid-loving plants, like Azaleas. Feed during the spring and early summer.

Shape the plant as needed after the flowers fade. The Lemon Lights Azalea is cold hardy and does not generally need special care during the winter.

Lemon Lights Azalea Spacing

The Lemon Lights Azalea has a woody structure and an upright growth habit. Mature plants reach 4 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. Leave 3 feet of space between shrubs during planting to create a continuous hedge or mass planting.
