Lemon Lime Nandina (Nandina domestica ‘Lemon Lime’), also known as Heavenly Bamboo, is a vibrant evergreen shrub valued for its colorful foliage and compact growth habit. New leaves emerge in a striking lime green, gradually softening to a lighter green in summer, bringing continuous interest to the landscape. Unlike traditional nandinas, this variety does not produce berries, making it a low-maintenance and non-invasive choice. Its bright foliage provides contrast in mixed borders, works beautifully as an accent shrub, and also thrives in large containers and mass plantings.
This compact nandina requires little upkeep, making it ideal for both beginner and experienced gardeners. Its year-round foliage color and versatility in design make it a standout in modern landscapes.
Lemon Lime Nandina Care
Plant Lemon Lime Nandina in moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system, then as needed during dry spells. Apply mulch around the base of the shrub to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to encourage vibrant new growth. Minimal pruning is required, but you can trim lightly to shape if desired.
Lemon Lime Nandina Growth & Spacing
This compact evergreen shrub grows to about 3 to 4 feet tall and wide at maturity. For mass plantings or borders, space plants approximately 5 feet apart, measuring from the center of each shrub. Lemon Lime Nandina also works well in large containers, either as a single focal point or mixed with other evergreen and flowering plants.
