The colorful Lena Scotchbroom puts on a vivid display during the spring and early summer. Reddish-orange flowers have yellow throats and grow along tall flower spikes. The stems grow at a slight angle, which nicely displays the blooms. Also known as Cytisus sco. 'Lena', this plant features medium-green foliage that grows alongside the blooms.

This tall plant can be featured in beds and mass plantings, or can be used to conceal a foundation wall. Use Lena to create a flowering hedge or a border. The blooms are fragrant, so plant this Scotchbroom near windows or a patio area to enjoy the perfume. For added convenience, Scotchbroom plants are deer resistant. This lovely perennial grows in USDA zones 6 through 8.

Lena Scotchbroom Care

This fast-growing plant needs full sun to look its best. The Lena Scotchbroom prefers fertile, well-drained soil with a low pH. Give established plants water when the soil is dry. Apply a balanced fertilizer in the early spring before new growth appears.

Prune the Lena Scotchbroom after the flowers fade in late spring. Propagate this plant via cuttings.

Lena Scotchbroom Spacing

The Lena Scotchbroom has an upright and compact growth habit. Mature plants reach 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. Space this clump-forming plant 3 to 4 feet apart when creating a full mass planting or uniform hedge.
