The Li'l Bang™ Starlight Tickseed or Coreopsis is a reliable plant that doesn’t need much attention, but this beauty provides a lot of color and visual interest during the summer and fall. Daisy-like flowers have white petals with dark purplish magenta accents that almost look like it was painted near the eye. The purple accents will be more prominent in areas with cooler temperatures. The petals surround a bright yellow center and have scalloped ends.
This dwarf plant has a compact, mounded form and is ideal for beds, borders, small gardens, and containers. Plant Li'l Bang™ Starlight Tickseed near the front of a bed or mass planting so the flowers can be admired. Butterflies will visit the flowers, while deer generally leave the plant alone. Grow the Li'l Bang™ Starlight Tickseed as a perennial in USDA zones 5 through 9.
Li'l Bang™ Starlight Tickseed Care
Plant this tickseed in an area that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight. The soil should have medium moisture and allow drainage. Tickseed can live in poor-quality soil, but the soil should have an acidic to neutral pH. New plants need consistent water, but established plants are drought tolerant. Top-dress the soil with organic mulch in the spring or apply a balanced fertilizer at half the recommended strength on the label. Feeding the plant once in the spring supports the plant throughout the growing season.
This perennial is disease resistant, so it does not require much preventative care. Divide Li'l Bang™ Starlight Tickseed in the spring as needed.
Li'l Bang™ Starlight Tickseed Spacing
The Li'l Bang™ Starlight Tickseed will grow 6 to 10 inches tall and 10 to 15 inches wide. Space plants 8 to 12 inches apart when creating a mass planting.
