Enjoy bold, colorful blooms without much maintenance with the Li'l Bang™ Starstruck Tickseed. Botanically known as Coreopsis, this perennial features large purple daisy-like flowers that bloom all summer. The petals have feathery tips with white accents. Narrow, lance-shaped foliage fills the spaces around the flowers, creating a dense appearance. The deep green leaves complement the bright flowers.
This North American native has an upright, clump-forming growth habit and grows in zones 5 through 8. The full form of the Li'l Bang™ Starstruck Tickseed looks stunning on its own but can also be featured in a mixed bed or container. Tickseed develops drought tolerance, but appreciates a drink during a dry spell to ensure continued blooming. Coreopsis is deer and disease resistant, providing consistent color and greenery throughout the growing season. Feature tickseed in a butterfly garden to support pollinators.
Li'l Bang™ Starstruck Tickseed Care
Give the Starstruck Tickseed full sun, 6 to 8 hours of daylight, for best performance. While the plant has average water needs, it can handle occasional dry conditions and only needs water during an extended dry period. It prefers well-drained soil with a neutral to acidic pH. Tickseed plants are not heavy feeders, but plants grown in low-quality soil will benefit from an annual application of plant food in the spring.
Deadhead tickseed to encourage more flowers throughout the summer and into fall. Leggy plants can be cut back by one-third to promote a full, bushier form and new growth. Tickseed is an herbaceous perennial and will die back after a hard freeze. Cut back all spent growth to the ground level. Apply a layer of mulch to protect the roots from cold temperatures in areas with chilly winter weather.
Li'l Bang™ Starstruck Tickseed Spacing
Mature Starstruck Tickseed will grow 12 to 15 inches tall and 15 to 18 inches wide. Space plants in mixed beds 7 to 9 inches away from other plants so air can circulate around the foliage.
