The unusual green blossoms of Limelight Prime® Hydrangea will stand out in your landscape from summer through fall. The flowers on this shrub transform to shades of bright red and pink as they age. The color metamorphosis will provide a gorgeous changing view throughout the year. The strong green leaf-covered stems can support the large panicles without dropping. Hydrangea paniculata will perform best in partial to full sun conditions in USDA hardiness zones 3 to 8. This deciduous shrub will grow to between 48 and 72 inches in height with a 48-to-60-inch spread.
This upright, easy to grow plant has average watering needs. Grow it in most pH conditions as long as the soil is well-draining. This panicle hydrangea can be used in border gardens, mass plantings, as a specimen plant or focal point in your landscape. Plant multiple to create a gorgeous flowering screen from spring to fall. It can also be used in the thriller role in a very large container. The flowers make great choices in both fresh and dried floral arrangements. No deadheading is required for continuous bloom.
Limelight Prime® Hydrangea Care
Prune the main branches back by one third in late winter or early spring. Trimming may also be done in late fall after the plant has lost its leaves and gone dormant. Do not trim once new growth appears because this hydrangea blooms on new wood.
Fertilize in early spring with a granular rose fertilizer, if desired. Cold climate gardeners should fertilizer when the ground begins to thaw. If you want your plant to grow faster, additional applications of fertilizer can be applied monthly through late July. Additional fertilization is not necessary for overall plant health and many blossoms.
