Lithodora Tidepool™ Sky Blue brings a splash of brilliant azure color to yards and containers. In spring, the showy, 5-petaled, sky blue flowers sit atop dense mounds of emerald green foliage. A superb evergreen ground cover, this perennial grows to 6-10 inches high and spreads 12 to 24 inches. Also known as Glandora diffusa, this perennial quickly fills in blank spaces and supports the bees with its beautiful blue blooms.
A native of the Mediterranean, Tidepool™ Sky Blue grows in neat, round mounds. Ideal for beds and borders, this ornamental perennial adds color and texture to alpine, cottage, pollinator, and rock gardens. It is cold hardy in zones 5 to 9.
Lithodora Tidepool™ Sky Blue Care
Plant Tidepool™ Sky Blue during spring in partial shade to full sun. Ensure the soil is moderately moist, acidic, and well draining. To prevent fungal disease, amend poorly draining soil with compost. Provide one inch of water weekly, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Fertilizer is not usually necessary; however, if the foliage looks pale, feed it lightly with a fertilizer created for acid-loving plants.
This low-maintenance perennial doesn’t typically require pruning except for controlling size. Trim overgrowth during late winter or early spring. To encourage better blooming, remove spent blooms during spring.
Lithodora Tidepool™ Sky Blue thrives in containers. Plant it in a pot slightly larger than the root mass, with two to three drainage holes. Fill it with a typical potting mix. Like most perennials, this shrub needs about an inch of water weekly. Water when the top one inch of soil is dry. Fertilize with a liquid fertilizer suitable for acid-loving plants when the leaves show signs of fading. In a thriller-filler-spiller combination, this evergreen works well as a spiller.
Lithodora Tidepool™ Sky Blue Spacing
Space plants about 2 feet apart. Excellent companion plants include creeping phlox, hosta, and sedum.
